Francis Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ Screened For First Time Today For Distributors At CityWalk IMAX

Megalopolis, which took root in Francis Ford Coppola's imagination 20 years ago, premiered this morning for the first time

The epic film was screened for buyers in the Universal CityWalk IMAX Theater, which was attended by every distributor.

Anjelica Huston, Nicolas Cage, Andy Garcia, Spike Jonze, Al Pacino, Jon Favreau, Colleen Camp, Roger Corman, Darren Aronofsky, Cailee Spaeny, as well as cast mates Shia LaBeouf and Talia Shire, were also there.

I was also there, and what can I say about the film after promising Coppola that I would be a fly on the wall and not write anything remotely resembling a review?

Coppola's latest film is brimming with themes that combine the past and the future, creating an enormous and highly visual narrative that works brilliantly on an IMAX screen.

He tackles complex topics in a surprisingly short two hours and 13 minutes, not including credits.

An accident destroys a New York City-like metropolis that is already crumbling, bringing conflicting visions of the future. Cesar (Adam Driver), an ambitious architectural idealist, stands to one side.

On the other side is his sworn adversary, city Mayor Frank Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito).
